Department of labour warns of fraudsters

Fraudsters pretending to be from the department of labour are selling charts and posters relating to the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA), the Labour Relations Act (LRA), and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) to businesses at a price ranging from R500 to R1500.

POLOKWANE – Fraudsters pretending to be from the department of labour are selling charts and posters relating to the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA), the Labour Relations Act (LRA), and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) to businesses at a price ranging from R500 to R1500.

These fraudsters also recently tried to sell sets of these posters to Northern Media Group for around R700.

Labour national spokesperson, Page Boikanyo, said the department’s risk management wanted to alert and warn officials, businesses and the public in general about the situation.

“These fraudsters go about forcing employers to buy the charts and threatening them that, by failure to do so, inspectors will be dispatched to the place of employment or business, and it will be closed down. However, this is not true.”

Boikanyo said the charts were easily obtainable at the government printers, who could be contacted at (012) 334 4507/8/9.
