POLOKWANE – Residents of Semenya village have warned that they expect justice to be done, and no bail to be granted, in the murder case of a 75-year-old woman and a five-year-old girl.
The two murder suspects appeared before the Seshego magistrate’s court on Friday on two counts of murder and one of rape, while Semenya village residents protested outside.
The murders took place two weeks ago in Semenya village. The woman and girl were strangled to death, with the motive as yet unknown.
Speaking as a resident of the village, Maseriki Legora said villagers would hire buses to attend the court case until the suspects were sentenced. “We remain united and support the bereaved Moloto family. We hope the magistrate will find the suspects guilty and sentence them,” Legora said.
Placards that some of the villagers were holding indicated that the suspects’ lives would not be safe should they be granted bail.
Phuti Semenya, a relative of the deceased said he appreciated the support the family was receiving from the community, and he hoped they would continue to lend their support until the matter was finalised.
The suspects will remain in custody until their next appearance, scheduled for June 26.
