DECEMBER Radingoana, a 21-year-old man from Marble Hall learned a painful lesson when half of his lower lip was bitten off, allegedly by a Zimbabwean woman, also 21 years old, when he allegedly tried to rape her last Wednesday.
Marble Hall police spokesperson, Const Lethunya Mmuroa said the woman was on her way to a farm near Marble Hall, and arrived in town at around 20:30.
However, there were no taxis available to take her to her destination.
“A man at the Marble Hall taxi rank helped her by carrying her baggage towards a hiking spot. He promised that he would find a lift for her. Along the way, he propositioned her, suggesting they should go to his home to have sexual intercourse. The woman refused and the suspect grabbed hold of her, forcing her into the veld,” Mmuroa described.
“The young woman followed all the suspect’s instructions, and when he started kissing her, she bit off his lower lip. She escaped his clutches while he was still screaming with pain and shock.”
Mmuroa said the man fled to Mamphokgo village with the woman’s wallet in his pocket.
“He went to the Motetema police station where he claimed that he had been robbed and stabbed by unknown assailants. He was taken to the Matlala Hospital for treatment,” he said.
“A few minutes later, the woman reported a case of attempted rape and robbery at the Marble Hall police station. She told the police that the suspect had run away after she bit off his lip when he was trying to kiss her.
“The police alerted the other police stations in the area,” Mmuroa related.
Radingoana was arrested in hospital and the woman’s wallet was allegedly found in his possession. He appeared before the Marble Hall magistrate’s court and will remain in custody until his next court appearance, which is scheduled for August 5 for a bail application.
