A TEENAGE boy learned his lesson the hard way when his father had him arrested after he stole his father’s firearm in Mpheni village near Elim on Monday.

According to Waterval police spokesperson, WO Kedibone Mabatha, the father of the 16-year-old boy had just returned home from work. He put his firearm on his bed and went outside to inspect the yard. The 16-year-old saw the firearm, picked it up and disappeared from the house.

“The frustrated father opened a theft of a firearm case at the Waterval police station. The police recovered the firearm, which had not been fired, from the complainant’s son shortly thereafter.” The teenager will appear before the Waterval magistrate’s court soon.

In an unrelated incident, a Nissan 1400 was stolen from a Somalian businessman on Monday in Waterval Section-A.

Mabatha said the Somalian man was busy in his spaza shop until around 19:00 that evening. “When he knocked off, he found that his vehicle was missing and reported the theft.”
