WHEN police officials stopped a blue sedan in Letsitele last Wednesday night, they were in for a big surprise.

Letsitele police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, said members of the road policing unit were on patrol on the Tzaneen-Letsitele road when they spotted the blue sedan and asked the driver to pull over.

“When the vehicle came to a standstill, three passengers jumped out of the car and ran away, leaving the driver behind. The police officials searched the car and discovered a living cow stuffed in the boot of the sedan,” Ngoepe explained.

According to Ngoepe the officials arrested the driver of the car, Ernest Shingange (30) of Rwanda Village in N’wamitwa.

Shingange appeared before the Ritavi magistrate’s court on charges of stock theft on Friday. The case was postponed to September 10 and Shingange received R2 000 bail.

Ngoepe told CV that police investigations revealed the cow in question was stolen from a farm in the Trichardtsdal area.

“We are still looking for Shingange’s accomplices. Residents with information about this case and the three men’s whereabouts should contact their nearest police station immediately,” he said.
