POLOKWANE – Thirteen people were arrested in the Westenburg policing area for various crimes during Operation Thiba (Stop) over the weekend.
Capt Mohlaka Mashiane, Westenburg police spokesperson said the police were working tirelessly to combat crime to ensure all evils are routed out of communities.
“We need residents to work with the police so that we can ensure our communities are safe for our children to play and women to walk freely in without fear of being attacked.
“Together we can fight crime,” Mashiane said.
The following arrests were made over the weekend:
• Seven motorists for drunk driving.
• Six for the possession of dagga.
• Four illegal shebeens were closed and the owners were issued with fines and the police confiscated 100’s of liquor. Three of the shebeens were in Extension 44 and one in Disteneng.
The Mashiane urged residents not to support these illegal shebeens.
Still in the Westenburg policing area, the police confirmed that housebreakings are on the rise.
“Recently we received numerous complaints about housebreakings. The suspects enter the house through a small window and browse through the house to see what valuable there are.
“Because residents leave their keys in the door, the suspects unlock the door and remove items from the house.
“We urge residents to remove the key from the door and to put it at a place not visible to strangers.”
