POLOKWANE – To celebrate their achievement and to wish them well on their journey to Sweden the teachers and principal of Taxila Secondary School hosted a farewell party for the three learners who will depart for Sweden soon.

They will go on this trip thanks to their first place in the South African leg of the Youth Water Prize competition recently.

The two gr. 11 learners, Dipuo Nthane and Thabiseng Motona and gr. 10 learner Tebogo Mamabolo won full bursaries to study any water related courses at any university or college in the country.

The learners, accompanied by their teacher Matome Mabitsela, will leave for Sweden on August 29 to take part in the international round of this competition. They will return on September 5.

The objectives of the Youth Water Prize competition are to promote the protection of the country’s na-tural resources and increase awareness of water relater issues among young people.

The programme also exposes learners to science and technology and motivates them to pursue water and sanitation careers.

It targets gr. 9 to 11 learners who identify problems related to water in their school and community, do research and come up with ideas how to resolve the problems.

Nthane, Motona and Mamabolo built a model house with a purification system, which won them the national competition.

Taxila principal, Tlou Ramara said the school is very proud of the learners’ achievements.

“They have shown dedication and a more passionate and enthusiastic team cannot be found anywhere.

“We are very proud of them and even more so as they will represent Taxila Secondary School at international level. Good luck to them and we are very proud of you,” Ramara said.
