Evacuation drill is better safe than sorry

POLOKWANE- Mall of the North conducts an annual evacuation exercise in conjunction with the Polokwane Municipality disaster management team.
This year, the evacua-tion drill took place last Tuesday morning.
With this exercise firefighters, the police, dog unit, ambulance services, traffic department and the bomb unit have the opportunity to show their skills and conduct a routine evacuation exercise at the mall.
Mall of the North, marketing manager, René van der Merwe said they conduct this exercise with all the tenants of the mall, as well as shoppers present in the mall on that particular day.
“We have to make sure we are ready for any problem that might occur during our trading hours.
“The bomb unit once again removed a ‘suspicious’ packet as part of their training.
“We feel this exercise is very important and the more we practise, the better we become every year.
“We improve each time we practise like this, and will do so in years to come as well.”
