POLOKWANE – A section of the ceiling on the top floor of Mall of the North (MotN) caved in at around 05:30 on Monday.
MotN centre manager, Sumari de Ridder, said no one was injured in the incident as the mall was closed for business at the time. However, the affected area was cordoned off immediately, she said.
“It is still unclear what caused the bulkheads to fall, however, an investigation is underway. By 12:00 on Monday, the affected area was cleared up and safe for trading,” De Ridder said.
She added that the investigation would include one by the original installers and designers of the ceiling bulkheads to ascertain the cause.
“Repairs to the bulkhead have already started, with the original installers currently on site and handling the repairs,” she further said. “MotN centre management would like to commend the security team for their swift action in alerting management to the incident.
“The safety of our shoppers, retailers and their personnel is of the utmost importance to us,” she concluded.
