David’s 63 units of blood

POLOKWANE – David Lamola wants to be an example to his children, who often tell him, “you do a lot of good!’

They tell him this because he has been a blood donor for the last 14 years and, at the last count, he had already donated 63 units of life-giving blood.

“I give blood because I want to help other people and I have blood that is suitable to give. It can help other people in hospitals, people with cancer and people who were involved in accidents too. Mothers giving birth may also sometimes need blood,” says David.

“God gave me blood for free, so I can give it to those who need it. I talk to my colleagues and friends and try to inspire them to donate blood too.”

David is married, has four children, and says his children also intend to donate blood when they are older. The eldest of his children is a first year student in Public Administration at the University of Limpopo. The youngest one is five-years-old.

David is a plate and screen maker in the printing section of the Northern Media Group.

” The day may come when I may need blood. That is one reason I try to inspire others to donate too if they can,” says David with a smile.
