Sewage drives clients away
A sewage leak is a headache to business owners in Schoeman Street who say complaining to the municipality is like speaking to a brick wall.
POLOKWANE – A sewage leak is a headache to business owners in Schoeman Street who say complaining to the municipality is like speaking to a brick wall.
They say the problem has existed for a few months and not only affects their employees’ health, but also drove customers away.
According to a Martin’s Funeral Services employee, they have been forced on more than one occasion to close their doors because of the horrific smell.
“In our line of business a bad smell is the last thing one wants,” he said.
Marge Henning, who had to go to one of the funeral homes in the affected area, said she had to move the date of her mother’s viewing because of the smell.
Municipal spokesperson, Malesela Maubane, said the matter was being looked into and the drain in question was fixed, but there was still an issue over water leaking from the back of one of the buildings that needed to be resolved.
He urged residents to ensure they reported their various municipal problems to the correct departments.
