THE three men accused of having brutally raped and murdered Mojaji Sebyene (83) from Sereni village near Elim were denied bail by the Tshitale magistrate’s court on Friday, and were due to reapply for bail today (Wednesday).

It is alleged that the three men, Happy Mohale (24), Thomas Serepa (29), and Stanley Zwidofhela Mugwena (27) attacked, raped and killed Sebyene on August 16 at her home.

They were arrested a week later.

Provincial police spokesperson, Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi, said the three men allegedly forced their way into the woman’s bedroom and demanded money.

“When they entered her room, she was sleeping and alone. They dragged her into nearby bushes where they allegedly raped and assaulted her. They left her for dead and returned to her house, which they allegedly set alight,” Mulaudzi said.

Speaking on behalf of the Munna ndi Nnyi forum, Bardwell Mufunwaini condemned the rape and subsequent murder, saying real men did not rape.

“Real men protect their families, women and children. The authorities should make an example of rapists and murderers,” he said.

Leader of Traditional Healers in Limpopo, Mbulaheni Neluvhola said those who terrorized the community, especially women and children, should be prosecuted and sentenced.
