THE multi-billion rand presidential pilot project in Muyexe village is reportedly not going as well as agriculture MEC, Joy Matshoge claims.

This was according to DA Limpopo leader, Jaques Smalle, after his site visit in the area last week.

Smalle said only two women worked with the poultry project instead of six, as promised.

According to Smalle, the installing of water supply infrastructure was at a standstill except for the installation of some waterpipes that were recently done to impress the National Council of Province on their recent visit to the village.

“Access to water seemed to be a crisis as there is only one incomplete borehole. The women’s community beadwork project has never received any funding except a private donor who they sought assistance from. They claim that government officials always come and promise to assist, but they just come and go,” described Smalle.

“Most of the fences which were setup for security and grazing purposes were tree stumps with rusted barbed wire.”

The provincial government’s report to the portfolio committee bragged about the establishment of a satellite police station with three policemen on duty day and night. The DA only found two police officials on duty, who were forced to work without any running water.

“The 300 backyard vegetable garden projects are but a distant dream due to dry communal taps.

Again government has done almost nothing to sustain the green project. Women working on this project also claim to use their own resources to fund the green garden,” said Smalle.

Agriculture spokesperson, Sipho Dikgale, said he would officially respond to the DA’s allegations as soon as he had ascertained what the situation was.
