A FORMER police officer (45) and his cousin of the same age appeared before the Bochum magistrate’s court on Thursday after being arrested in connection with armed robbery.
Provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronél Otto, said former WO Victor Kobe was arrested on September 9 and his cousin, Oupa Kobe shortly thereafter.
She said the suspects were arrested after information was followed up about their alleged involvement in the armed robbery of a shop belonging to an Indian man in My Darling village, Maleboho earlier this month.
According to Otto, it was alleged that the two entered the shop, pointed a firearm at the owner, and robbed him of R13 000 cash, airtime vouchers, five cell phones and several bags of groceries.
“The member resigned from the police in 2013, but investigations to determine whether he was involved in similar crimes while still employed by the police are ongoing.
“The suspects appeared in court on a charge of armed robbery and the case was remanded to Wednesday, September 17 (today) for a formal bail application,” said Otto.
