Lebogo in custody

THE former provincial secretary of the ANC Youth League (ANCYL), Jacob Lebogo, will remain in custody until his formal bail application tomorrow (Thursday).

THE former provincial secretary of the ANC Youth League (ANCYL), Jacob Lebogo, will remain in custody until his formal bail application tomorrow (Thursday).

During an informal bail application, Lebogo pleaded not guilty by reason of self defence when he appeared before the Polokwane magistrate’s court yesterday (Tuesday) on charges of attempted murder and discharging a firearm in a public place.

Lebogo, who was accompanied by his attorney, Tumi Mokwena, handed himself over to the Polokwane police on Monday night. This followed the shooting of Boy Mamabolo, ANCYL Milo Malatji branch chairperson, and three others during a celebration held by Metro FM at Waterland on Sunday.

Mamabolo was taken to Mediclinic Limpopo where he later underwent an operation, and was declared stable, albeit in ICU. The other three men who were shot were treated and discharged.

Lebogo, Mamabolo, Julius Malema and Jossey Buthane grew up together in Seshego zone 1, and were childhood friends until they split up almost four years ago, reportedly due to political differences.

Mamabolo and Lebogo have seemingly had their own private war against each other ever since. In September 2012, the Seshego police arrested Mamabolo as a suspect in the alleged smashing of a vehicle belonging to Lebogo. The case against Mamabolo was later struck off the court roll.

ANCYL provincial task team spokesperson, Onica Moloi, said the latest information on Mamabolo’s condition was that he was responding well to treatment and was able to talk, sit on a chair and walk around the ICU.
