IN a bid to keep the Pedi culture alive, six young people from Waterberg established a Pedi cultural dance group; Legend Foundation.

The group entertained the crowd at the Legend Golf and Safari Resort last Friday afternoon during the Limpopo Golf Extravaganza of the department of economic development, environment and tourism (Ledet), Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) and Pele-Pele Travel and Marketing.

According to Herry Hlungwane, one of the members of the Legend Foundation, the group derived their name from the resort because they spend most of their time entertaining people who visit the resort.

There is a Pedi cultural village at the Legend Golf and Safari Resort where they perform. The village is made up of mud huts and cattle kraals.

The Legend Foundation was formed in 2011 and members initially wanted to raise money for charity, but now their performances are a source of income for the members.

Rosalia Hlogwane, one of the dancers, said they realised that young people adopted modern lifestyles and seemed to forget their cultural roots.

“We go around the province to entertain people with the aim to encourage young people to form similar cultural groups to keep their cultures strong. We want to travel the world and show other countries what we are capable of,” she said.

The crew was due to perform in China last year, but they were unable to fulfil this commitment because members were busy with examinations. However, they are determined that they will soon receive a new opportunity again to perform abroad.
