Tzaneen swimming pool to be revamped at R11 million

Tzaneen residents have been without access to a public swimming pool for the past four years, but this is set to change when the Greater Tzaneen Municipality completes the upgrading of the old dilapidated swimming pool just outside of town.

TZANEEN residents have been without access to a public swimming pool for the past four years, but this is set to change when the Greater Tzaneen Municipality completes the upgrading of the old dilapidated swimming pool just outside of town.

Prior to the closing of the public swimming pool, it was a popular venue for young people to gather.

Municipal spokesperson, Neville Ndlala, said the public swimming pool had provided a great venue for people to socialise.

“It was an affordable form of entertainment, and schools also used the pool for their swimming competitions as well as practise,” Ndlala said.

After the pool was closed swimming competitions had to move to Polokwane, he added.

He said while the the municipality had recognised the value of having a public swimming pool, funding was a stumbling block until the neighbourhood development grant salvaged the situation.

Ndala said the reconstruction of the swimming pools would be completed on March 15 2015. “It will cost more than R11 million to complete,” he said.

He further said the facility would boast an Olympic size swimming pool, a children’s swimming pool, change rooms, ablution facilities, a ticket office, a pavilion and fixed garden furniture.
