N1 closed between Willispoort and Witvlag for truck recovery

Motorists face delays of around two and a half hours on the N1 as crews recover a truck that veered into a ditch near Ingwe Motel.

LIMPOPO – Motorists travelling along the N1 between Willispoort and Witvlag should brace for delays as authorities carry out a recovery operation for a truck that landed in a ditch near Ingwe Motel.

The truck rests in dense bush below the N1 near Witvlag, after going off the road down a steep slope.

According to the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, the road has been temporarily closed to allow recovery teams to do their work safely, with the operation expected to take around two and a half hours.

If you’re travelling from Musina towards Makhado:

  • At Willispoort, turn left onto the R523.
  • Follow the R523 to Tshikombani.
  • Turn right at Tshikombani onto the Witvlag Road and continue until you rejoin the N1 towards Makhado.

If you’re travelling from Makhado towards Musina:

  • Turn right onto the Witvlag Road.
  • Continue straight until you reach the R523 at Tshikombani.
  • Follow the R523 back to Willispoort.
  • Turn right onto the N1 North and continue towards Musina.

The department has asked motorists in the area to be patient, follow instructions from law enforcement officers on site, and stick to the alternative routes where possible. Extra travelling time is strongly advised.
