TWO female shoppers were recently robbed at the Tubatse Crossing Mall in two separate incidents.
Nadine van Zyl told CV that while she was at an ATM inside the mall to draw money, two men approached her from behind and grabbed her bank card.
“Luckily, I pressed cancel before the transaction could be processed. They fled with my card,” she said.
She could not identify the two men, because they came from behind and she never saw their faces.
In another incident on October 28, Debby Grant bought groceries at the mall.
“I walked towards my car, which was parked near the taxi rank, when two men pushed me from behind. I fell to the ground and they grabbed my handbag and groceries. Both of them fled on foot. I could not identify them, because they attacked me from behind. I reported the incident to the local police, but no case was filed as I could not identify my assailants,” she explained.
Grant added that her arm was bruised and foot sprained during the attack. An elderly couple assisted her on the scene.
Jan Oosthuizen, the owner of National Guarding, which is responsible for the security at the mall, said there was security at every entrance and security officers patrolled in and around the mall.
“We have security officers ready to assist citizens with any crisis. We are also busy with training to improve their skills for the holiday season and two police officers will also patrol the mall during the holidays to ensure safety.
“If any situation in and around the mall occurs where people don’t feel save, they must report it to a security officer.”
