POLOKWANE – The school governing body (SGB) of Westenburg Secondary School thanked ADT Security Company for their quick response after two suspects broke into the office at the school in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Eugene Lyle, chairperson of the SGB said they really appreciated the quick response from ADT.
“If it weren’t for them, the school would have lost a lot of valuable equipment that we need for our children’s education,” he said.
“I do not know what could possibly drive a person to steal from a school.
“This is a place where children are educated so they can become the leaders of tomorrow. I plead with the community to help the school by being aware and alert and to report any suspicious people or behavious to the police.
“We also ask that the community do not take the law into their own hands and act when they see something at the school. Rather alert the police,” Lyle said.
According to a source who spoke to Review on condition of anonymity, the two suspects allegedly gained access to the office after they cut the security gate and broke open the back door of the office.
“The alarm was triggered and within minutes an armed ADT security guard was at the school to search the premises.
“The guard was not sure how many suspects there were and called the police for backup,” the source revealed.
Capt. Mohlaka Mashiane, Westenburg police spokesperson, confirmed that there were two suspects.
“We received information from the security company that there was a housebreaking in progress at the school.
“We immediately responded, but the suspects already fled the scene when we arrived.
“No arrests were made yet and we are investigating a case of attempted house robbery. Nothing was stolen and no shots were fired,” Mashiane said.
