Western Cape Police chief Arno Lamoer says he’s outraged by an incident in which a 50-year-old woman was assaulted by three policemen in Kraaifontein.
The incident, which occurred late last month, was caught on video which only surfaced this week.
Police say an investigation has been launched and preliminary findings suggest the assailants are police officials.
Lamoer says the behaviour of the police members who are entrusted with the public’s safety, is unbecoming.
“I’m disgusted, I think this is being softly put. It’s totally horrific.”
He adds it’s infuriating that this incident took place at a time when there is heightened awareness around violence against women and children.
“What infuriates one is that this incident occurs at a time when there is heightened awareness on violence against vulnerable groups such as women, children and the elderly.”
A video of the incident has since gone viral.
