4 injured in prisoner transport crash near Groblersdal

A collision between a police vehicle transporting prisoners to Middelburg and a tractor has left four people seriously injured.

LIMPOPO – Four people were injured in a crash involving a police vehicle transporting prisoners on the N11 near Groblersdal today.

The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety confirmed that the incident occurred near Roslyn Farm.

According to the department, the state vehicle was transporting prisoners to Middelburg when the collision happened.

It is alleged that a tractor was crossing the road at the time of the crash.

Three prisoners and one police officer sustained serious injuries and were transported to Groblersdal Hospital for medical treatment.

Department spokesperson Mashudu Mabata said the department appreciates the efforts of all stakeholders who responded at the scene and assisted during the emergency.

Motorists have once again been urged to remain vigilant on the roads and to obey traffic regulations at all times in an effort to reduce crashes and save lives.
