MANKWENG – THE Mankweng police appeal to the public to be cautious of their belongings such as bankcards.
This after a man was arrested at Paledi Mall in Mankweng on Friday after he allegedly tried to buy clothes under a false identity at one of the fashion stores.
According to Const Matimba Maluleke of the Mankweng police, the man allegedly used someone else’s bankcard, but failed to provide his ID and proof that allowed him to use the card.
Maluleke said the man identified himself as the owner of the card and, after they searched him, they found a piece of paper with the particulars of the lawful owner of the card, including a pin code.
Upon questioning, the man said bought the card in the Polokwane.
Maluleke advised people not to give their cards or pin codes to family or friends, unless in case of an emergency.
“If you notice any irregularities in your bank account, consult with your bank immediately,” said Maluleke.
“People must call the police whenever they come across people who purchase goods under a false identity. We urge them not to take matters into their own hands.”
A case of fraud has been opened against the man and investigations are underway, said Maluleke.
