MANKWENG – TWO men appeared before the Mankweng magistrate’s court outside Polokwane on Monday in connection with the murder of a seven-year-old boy last week.
The case was postponed to January 7 and the suspects remain in police custody.
The boy went missing last Monday and the matter was reported to the Mankweng police station the following day.
After the boy was reported missing to the police, the community razed the house and car of a 35-year-old man that they suspected was responsible for the boy’s disappearance.
Const Matimba Maluleke, Mankweng police spokesperson, said it was alleged that the boy was last seen with the 35-year-old before he went missing.
“The Limpopo search and rescue unit, along with the Mankweng police and the community searched for the boy and found his body in an abandoned shack on Thursday.
“The boy was seemingly strangled.
His body was found next to the suspect’s house, which was destroyed by the community on Tuesday.
“The suspect, who helped the police and community search for the boy, was arrested at the scene.
“With further investigation the police found that there was a second suspect connected to the incident and a 31-year-old man was arrested on Friday,” Maluleke said.
He added that the motive for the killing was still unknown and police investigations continued.
