THOHOYANDOU – THE bail application of Ndivhuwo Ntsieni, who is charged with four murders, attempted murder, rape, attempted rape, robbery and kidnapping, was postponed to Friday, December 19 by the Thohoyandou magistrate’s court earlier this week.
State advocate, Mashudu Nekhumbe, told the court that the case had to be postponed due to the unavailability of Ntsieni’s legal representative.
Ndivhuwo Ntsieni (24), a final year bachelor of science student at the University of Venda (Univen) is accused of killing Tshililo Ndou (9), Zwivhuya Mashau (8), Livhuwani Mmbodi (22), and Brenda Ndovhe, a cleaner at the Univen campus.
At the time of his arrest, Ntsieni was allegedly found in possession of some of the victims’ belongings, including Ndovhe’s cellphone, and a hairpin that allegedly belonged to Mmbodi.
Representatives of several organisations that were active on gender issues such as the Thohoyandou Victim Empowerment Programme (TVEP), the Moral Regeneration Movement, and the Far North Network on Family Violence, chanted outside the court to demand that Ntsieni not be granted bail.
A close friend of Ndovhe, Rosina Mmbi, said before the arrest, they had felt that they were not safe on campus or in their residences.
“That’s why we are appealing to the court not to grant this man bail. He is not fit to be in our society and deserves to rot in jail,” she said.
TVEP community mobilisation officer, Nkhumiseni Tshivhase, said if Ntsieni was released on bail, it meant more women and children would be raped and killed.
