THE Dzanani magistrate’s court yesterday denied bail to 14 suspects thought to be behind the petrol bombing of two gogos’ houses in witchcraft-related tussles in Tshikuwi village between Musina and Makhado.
Mphephu police station, WO Lazarus Netshidzati, said residents of Tshikuwi village went on the rampage last Wednesday when they accused to elderly women of being witches.
“They alleged that the two gogos’ killed people and converted them into zombies. They set two houses alight and now 15 people had to be given refuge at the Mphephu police station,” he said.
“The public order police arrested 14 suspects who were charged with public violence, two counts of arson, malicious damage to property and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm. A boy who is still a minor was released into his parents’ custody,” he said.
“The case was remanded to February 25 for further investigation.
“We want to warn residents not to take the law into their own hands. Our public order police are still patrolling the area,” Netshidzati said.
