ANGRY residents of Vleifontein between Elim and Louis Trichardt went on the rampage after they became suspicious that the lifeless body of a woman that was found floating in the Vleifontein dam last Sunday was due to a ritual murder.

The road that linked Elim to the N1 North to Louis Trichardt was blocked with burning tyres, stones and electricity poles forcing motorists to use alternative routes.

Makhado police spokesperson, Const Irene Radzilani, said the dead woman was identified as Eagles Ramaligela (56) and her body had been mutilated.

Ramaligela’s son, Happy Mulaudzi, said some of his mother’s body parts were missing.

“We have furnished the police with the names of possible suspects but no action has been taken. The family is waiting for the post-mortem report from the police. It is still a mystery how her body ended up in the dam, which is far away from her home,” Mulaudzi said.

Provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronél Otto, said the police were still waiting for the postmodern results.

“At this stage, we have no evidence linking anybody to the woman’s death. We appeal to people to give us space to work on the case. We also appeal to Vleifontein residents to divulge any information regarding this matter,” Otto said.

Venda king Toni Mphephu Ramabulana appealed to the community not to take the law into their own hands. He said residents should help the police with information.

He also appealed to the community not to involve school children in their protests.
