A WOMAN and her son were arrested by the Mecklenburg police after their husband and father was stoned to death in Ga-Phasha village near Burgersfort last Monday evening.
Mecklenburg police spokesperson, Const Elias Setati, said the 51-year-old man was stoned to death at around 22:40 while he was on his way home.
Setati said an argument over an electrical extension ensued between the father and his son, with the father accusing the son of having lent the electrical extension to friends without his consent.
“It is alleged that the father assaulted his son and the mother intervened to try to stop the fight. However, the fight escalated and ended when the victim was stoned to death. He was certified dead at the scene by a paramedic from the Limpopo emergency medical services,” Setati said.
Setati further said the woman and her son were arrested on the same night and charged with murder. They appeared briefly before the Mecklenburg magistrate’s court last week, and on Monday, they were each granted bail of R1 000 on the conditions that they did not attend the victim’s funeral, did not go near Ga-Phasha village until the case was finalised and that they attended court when they were due to do so.
The mother and son were due to appear before court again on March 9, Setati said.
“We strongly condemn domestic violence and we appeal to anyone with information that can help us in our investigation to come forward,” Setati concluded.
