MOHLALA Morudi Secondary School in Diphale near Burgersfort, which has been burgled 14 times over the past two years, was robbed for the 15th time over the past weekend.
However, the burglars did not stop at theft, and also vandalised some areas of the school, including school principal, Elvis Tlomatsana’s office.
Tlomatsana said the thugs smeared industrial strength disinfectant and cleaning agents on the principal’s desk, they threw learners’ scripts, stole computers, tinned fishes, bags of maize meal, sports attire and light bulbs, and also vandalised some classrooms.
Several notes were also left on the principal’s desk with insulting and derogatory statements.
Tlomatsana said the marking sheets were also gone and the learners would not receive their quarterly reports.
“Everything is destroyed. We just don’t know how to start with our work, this situation is derailing our learners.”
Meanwhile residents held a meeting during which they identified several possible suspects.
Residents said they intended to search the homes of the suspects they had identified and deal with them harshly should the stolen items be found.
Mecklenburg police spokesperson, Const Elias Setati, confirmed that the police were investigating the matter.
He said no arrests had been made as yet and anyone with information on these incidents could report to their nearest police station.
He further warned residents not to take the law into their own hands, but rather to allow and help the police to do their work.
