It is no April fool’s joke; the petrol price is increasing with R1, 62 a liter on Wednesday April 1 as per the energy department. Bosveld would like to remind our readers to fill up your tanks before Wednesday.
According to a media statement, send on Friday, by the energy department, the prices will increase as follows;
- 95 octane petrol would increase by R1, 62 in Gauteng and R1, 60 on the coast.
- The price per liter of 93 octane petrol would increase by R1, 56 in Gauteng and R1, 54 on the coast.
- Diesel would be increased between R1, 20 on the coast and R1, 24 in Gauteng.
- Illuminating paraffin will increase by 36.00 cents per liter
- Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) will increase by 85.00 cents per kilogram
The reasons for the fuel price increases in April 2015 are;
- The increase in fuel levies and the Road Accident Fund levy as determined annually by the Minister of Finance of 80.5 c/l;
- The increase in the transportation costs as determined by the National energy Regulator (NERSA) and Road Freight Association (RFA) of 2.2 c/l in Gauteng. This will result in different prices for different areas (adjusted annually);
- The average increase in the prices of petroleum products in the international markets (about 65.00c/l for petrol and 31.00 c/l for diesel respectively); and
- The depreciation of the Rand against the US Dollar during the period under review when compared to the previous one
