THOHOYANDOU – TSHIVENDA radio station, PhalaPhala FM, one of the SABC’s radio stations, celebrates 50 years of existence this year, and gives thanks to its listeners for their unwavering support.

The station was previously known as Radio Venda Tshititshi tsha khwine back in 1965 when it hit the airwaves on February 2 that year, and was renamed PhalaPhala FM Hu bvuma yone fhedzi in 1997. A year later the station incorporated the now defunct Radio Thohoyandou.

The station held a glittering gala dinner to which advertisers, business partners and various media houses were invited, and which took place at the Thohoyandou Indoor Sports Centre on Friday evening.

PhalaPhala FM station manager, Freddy Sadiki, said radio was the friend of everybody and the station would continued to keep its listeners up to date and entertained.

“We understand that local is lekker; we will give 80% of our broadcast to our local artists and we wish them to grow bigger and bigger with our promotion. We will also be available on social media like Twitter and Facebook, amongst others,” said Sadiki.

Chillyboy Rathando, an upcoming businessman whose business has grown thanks to advertising through Piece Jobs, a slot on PhalaPhala FM to help unemployed people get work, said he was proud of the relationship he had built with the station as it had boosted his business.
