And out of the Fauna Park potholes grow… a new species
After several calls to the Polokwane Municipality in this regard, one resident or motorist decided to plant a 'new species' in one of the potholes.
POLOKWANE – Residents in Fauna Park say they are at the end of their tether over the terrible condition their streets are in.
After several calls to the Polokwane Municipality in this regard, one resident or motorist decided to plant a small tree in one of the potholes in Gemsbok Street.
Nico Veldman, who lives in Gemsbok Street, told Review he was pleasantly surprised when he saw the plant in the pothole that had been there for months without being attended to.
“I do not know who the person is that planted it there but I am glad someone took some sort of action. All I can hope for now is that the municipality will see the seriousness of the situation that we have to deal with daily,” Veldman said.
Mpho Wongani, who used the streets in the area regularly as he did deliveries, said he had had several close encounters with potholes. “I only make use of the motorbike when I am doing my work, delivering items and if the bike breaks due to a pothole or I end up in an accident, it will cost me my income. The municipality should realise that they are playing with the very lifeblood of people,” Wongani said. He said at least with the plant in the pothole, and some yellow tape around it, the pothole was much more visible.
Municipal spokesperson, Tidimalo Chuene, said the municipality was busy with a programme to rehabilitate the city’s streets, and the municipality would look into the matter at hand in due time.
