MUSINA – THE 17 suspects said to be behind the torching of the pastor’s house in Nancefield, Musina, are appearing in the Musina magistrate’s court today (Thursday) facing charges of arson, malicious damage to property and public violence.
Limpopo police spokesperson, Col Ronél Otto, said the suspects were arrested on Wednesday night for allegedly burning down the pastor’s house over witchcraft. She said two of the suspects were still underage.
“The 70-year-old pastor was attacked after his appearance on the Gauteng Church’s TV channel confessing that he bewitched people,” she said.
During his confession, the pastor said there were two groups of witches and he was in group A. His daughter also confessed, and said she inherited the witchcraft spirit from her father and Satanism from other learners in her school.
“The police rescued the pastor with his wife and daughter, who are now refugees at the Musina Place of Safety. During the process of rescuing them, two police vans were damaged by rioters and three police officials were injured. The suspects are applying for bail and the proceedings continue,” Otto said.
