POLOKWANE – After a frustrating day at the Polokwane magistrate’s court on Thursday, Rameez Patel’s bail hearing was postponed to Monday.
Due to a shortage of venues, the bail application continued after a court was made available and support staff found to assist with translation and operating the recording machines.
Defence lawyer Tumi Mokoena hammered on questions previously asked by Patel’s former lawyer Stefanie Fourie, saying the investigating officer, as stipulated on the official form, had no right to ask certain questions pertaining to where Patel sustained certain injuries to his neck and his left hand. Patel opted to not give a statement, except in court during trial, he said.
The state may call another witness on Monday, according to state prosecutor Mark van Drunik.
