Horses provide a little TLC

POLOKWANE – Children at Pietersburg Provincial Hospital’s Tough Living with Cancer (TLC) ward were given the chance to ride horses for the first time in their lives last Tuesday.
This was made possible by the police K9 unit’s horseback police and they brought the horses for the children to enjoy this experience.
According to Bobby Were, TLC facilitator, the ward hosted such gatherings as often as it could to uplift the children’s spirits.
“We host various functions every month to try and cheer the children up so that they can forget about what they are going through.
“We currently have 34 children in the ward and every single one of them needs special treatment,” Bobby said.
He further thanked the police for their part in this and said most children seemed wary at first, but eventually enjoyed themselves.
Some of the children had such a wonderful time that they did not want the police officials and their horses to leave.
Bobby added that these children were living a tough life and needed to be taken care of to forget the trauma. He said he was happy to see the children smiling and having fun.
