When this 99-pound loggerhead sea turtle was hit by a boat propeller, his jaw--as well as his life--was left hanging by a thread.
When this 99-pound loggerhead sea turtle was hit by a boat propeller, his jaw–as well as his life–was left hanging by a thread.

Luckily, the turtle was pulled out of the water before it was too late. He was transported to a rescue center in Turkey where 3D-printing company BTech Innovation scanned his injured head and created a prosthetic beak made of medical grade titanium.
The turtle, named Akut-3, is currently stationed at the recovery center to ensure that it has adapted to its metal jaw. If all goes well, he should be able to fend for himself in the wild someday soon.
