An armed robbery at a jewellery store in Songozwi Street last Friday was the reason for the street being closed for more than four hours.

LOUIS TRICHARDT – An armed robbery at a jewellery store in Songozwi Street last Friday was the reason for the street being closed for more than four hours.

According to Const Irene Radzilane, spokesperson for the Makhado police, six men entered the store.

One of the suspects was armed with a pistol. As they entered the shop at about 12:30 they demanded cash from the owner.

According to the information received it is alleged that a shootout ensued whereafter one suspect died on the scene.

“The other suspects ran off with cash and items worth an undisclosed amount,” Radzilane said.

The police are investigating a case of robbery.

At the time of going to print, the owner of the jewellery store was not prepared to give Review any comment, but agreed to speak to Review at a later stage.
