Intellectual Disability Sports Day celebrated

Savannah Mall provided the venue for the celebration of Intellectual Disability Sports Day when learners of New Horizon School could challenge one another for a round of table tennis, on Friday.
According to Lizzie Vogel, President of the South African Sports Association for the Intellectually Impaired (SASA-II), New Horizon School is very proud of the achievements of their learners. “Mahlodi Nkadimeng and Salmita Mohale will represent South Africa at the World Table Tennis Championships for people with Down Syndrome that will take place in Bloemfontein in November. Koos Sello and Vikosi Rikhotso will also represent their country when they will be taking part in the World Athletics Championship for people with Down Syndrome, also in Bloemfontein in November,” says Vogel. In 2014 Nkadimeng took part in the World Table Tennis Championships for people with Down Syndrome.
Vogel says that sport is important for people with intellectual impairment because it helps to break down barriers, gives new opportunities, may be the only ability and talent people with intellectual impairment have and stimulates the brain and increase life and social skills.
