LOUIS TRICHARDT – The Makhado Municipality is currently in the process of constructing a new playground at the info centre in town.
But residents are not happy with this development as there are currently five playgrounds in Louis Trichardt, none of which is in a good state.
“I will not go to any of the playgrounds in Louis Trichardt, the swings are dangerous and not maintained. The playgrounds are dirty. It would be really nice if someone did some maintenance on the equipment,” said one of the residents, Cherise Muller.
Altie van den Heever agreed with Muller and added that the playgrounds were not safe for small children as they were being used as drinking spots.
“We would love to take our children to a playground, but it is not possible.
“Everything is broken and the children will hurt themselves if they had to play on the swings. I don’t think that the playgrounds are safe for families,” said Van den Heever.
According to another resident, Erika Bekker, the playgrounds were full of bullying.
“Smaller children get bullied in the playgrounds by the older children, who use the playgrounds as a kissing booth. This is not a place where I would take my children,” she said.
Municipal spokesperson, Louis Bobodi said: “We budgeted for the playground at the info centre in the 2014/15 financial year.
“We also plan to maintain all the facilities in town. We are also going to establish more of these facilities,” Bobodi said.
