Makonda appointed to expedite service delivery in Mogalakwena

MOKOPANE – “I LOOK forward to work with the newly elected mayor, Parks Sebatjane, members of the executive committee, all councilors and staff of the Mogalakwena Municipality. Together we will speed up service delivery, ensure service excellence in all our operations, drive economic growth and put the people first to build a better community,” said the acting municipal manager, Peter Makondo at the Lleka Lekalakala chamber last Friday.
In an endeavor to expedite service delivery and development, Mogalakwena Municipality appointed Makondo as the new acting municipal manager during a special council meeting held last Friday.
Makonda has 23 years of experience in the local government, where he started in 1993 as a administrator at the previously known Akasia town council today amalgamated to Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality after which he joined the South African Local Government Association, (Salga), where he served from 1997 to 2004 as the committee officer.
In 2004, he joined the Waterberg District Municipality as the committee officer, divisional manager council and he is currently the manager executive support.
“His secondment was approved during the Waterberg district municipal council on June 19 and he will be with the municipality for a period not exceeding three months. His secondment was welcomed by council including the opposition parties.
“He will succeed Puledi Selepe who was also seconded by the department of coorporative governance, human settlements and traditional affairs (Coghsta) in December,” read a media statement by the Mogalakwena Municipality.
During the appointment, the Mogalakwena municipal council emphasised that Makondo should ensure the seamless functioning of the municipality.
“I have been appointed as the acting municipal manager of the esteemed Mogalakwena Municipality and I am humbled by the appointment. I also acknowledge the role played by my predecessor for allowing a smooth transition,” Makonda said.
