POLOKWANE – CARLOS Chihanga (23), a street vendor from Greenside Ext 78, says he enjoys being a businessman and he is able to feed his family with the income he generates from his business.
Originally from Zimbabwe, the father of one has been living in Polokwane for seven months, but could not find a job.
“After I realised that walking around in the streets doing nothing can lead me to a life of crime, I decided to start a business,” he says.
Chihanga says even though his business is small, he is glad he can provide for his family.
“With the money I make, I am able to buy bread for my family, we don’t go to bed hungry,” says Chihanga.
“My customers always praise my business, more especially as a young man from another country. They always encourage me to not give up on my business as this can one day turn into a huge market,” he says.
He says his journey as a street vendor started three months ago and he dreams of running a big business, where he can employ young people to help fight poverty.
