POLOKWANE – Three people were seriously injured when a bakkie and a sedan collided on the corner of Pietersburg and Landdros Maré Street last Thursday.

According to emergency medical personnel and the accident report, the bakkie was travelling in Pietersburg Street and about to turn right into Landdros Maré Street when it collided with the oncoming sedan.

The driver of the bakkie lost control of the vehicle due to the collision, and the bakkie pounded over the pavement and came to a standstill against a wall.

Both the driver and passenger of the bakkie and the driver of the sedan were taken to hospital where they were treated for various moderate to serious injuries.

According to forensic accident reconstruction expert, Phillip Smit, many collisions occur due to speed and reckless driving.

He called on motorists to drive according to the law and not to risk their own safety and the safety of other road users.
