Starhelpers shine on Mandela Day

Starhelpers started a garden at the SPCA Polokwane on Saturday as part of Mandela Day activities.

POLOKWANE – Starhelpers started a garden at the SPCA Polokwane on Saturday as part of Mandela Day activities.

Starhelpers is a group of children between the ages of five and nine, who do community service.

The little ones planted trees and decorated the garden at the SPCA.

The Facebook page, Lost and Found Little Friends was also part of the event. They find lost animals and locate them to the owners.

Adele Heinlein of Lost and Found Little Friends said they rescued animals and found them new homes.

“We raise money so we can take the animals to the vet and get them food. I advise animal owners to sterilise their animals,” she said.

NTK and Ocean Basket Polokwane donated dog food worth R2 500, while Cansa sponsored a gazebo.

One of the Starhelpers, Amelie Franken said they did projects in various places every month.

“This month we chose to do gardening projects, the garden at SPCA was dry and needed some touch up,” she said.

Tania le Roux, SPCA committee member, expressed her gratitude to the donors.

Hot dogs, pancakes and soft drinks were sold during the day to raise money for the animals.
