POLOKWANE –  Some high lying areas in the city are without water following maintenance on the Olifantspoort pipeline by Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) yesterday says municipal spokesperson Matshidiso Mothapo in a statement on Friday morning.

The areas that that have been affected are Bendor, Flora Park, Ster Park and Serala view.

According to a report from LNW: “After the maintenance was completed, the Olifantspoort plant experienced power complications which affected the pumping of water to Polokwane.”

Mothapo says the problem has now been fixed and all systems are operational. “Pumping to Polokwane started earlier this morning, and it is expected that the affected areas will have normal water supply as the day progresses.”

“It takes time for the reservoirs to fill up,” explains Mothapo.

In the mean time, the municipality has arranged water tankers to supply the affected areas.

Residents in areas that continue to be affected are advised to report to the municipality on 015 290 2376 to make arrangements for water tankers.

The public is urged to use water sparingly to ensure that the reservoir levels pick up.

“Lepelle Northern Water and the municipality are working together to ensure normal supply and apologize for the inconvenience caused.”

Updates on the situation will continue as the day progresses.
