7de Laan’s Paula inspires women at women’s day celebration
"It is important for a woman to find what makes her happy and do it, because if a woman is not happy, she cannot be a good mother" - Diaan Lawrenson.
POLOKWANE –“It is important for a woman to find what makes her happy and do it, because if a woman is not happy, she cannot be a good mother” – Diaan Lawrenson.
Lawrenson (Paula van der Lecq from the soap opera 7de Laan) was the motivational speaker at Divine Life Ministries National Women’s Day celebration on Saturday, 8 August. The theme of the celebration was I can Change the Shape of my World.
“We have the freedom to be who we want to be and by doing so we give our children an environment in which they can be who they want to be. As mothers we put ourselves aside to make others happy, but we should not do that. We must take time to do introspection and find what makes us happy and incorporate that into our daily lives; it will make our days better and it will change the shape of our worlds,” Lawrenson said.
She added that she loves music.
“My daughter, Olivia, and I often go for a drive, where I play the music loud and we sing together. Not only do I spend time with my daughter, but I also do what I love. As an individual you must find a way to incorporate what you love into your life. My husband, Jody, loves cooking. Every now and then he lets the children cook with him. He lets them smell the different spices and explain to them what they are used for. In this way, not only does my husband do what he loves, but at the same time he spends time with our children.
Lawrenson also explained to the women that they cannot always control everything and sometimes a person has to let things go. She advised the women to seek out what they want to achieve and go for it, so that it will feed their soul and change their world.
To guide the women with their introspection, Lawrenson had a questions and answers session:.
• If we learn from our mistakes, why are we so afraid of making them?
• Which is worse: failing or never trying? The women responded never trying and Lawrenson then asked: “then why do we never try?”
• Does someone who upset you five years ago really matter now and why? The women responded no and Lawrenson said: “then why do we hold on? If we do not let go, we restrict ourselves.”
Other special guests who attended were prophets, Joe van den Berg from Pretoria, André Bronkhorst from Mossel Bay and Betsie Joubert from Polokwane
“You can change your world by the way you think about yourself, about other people and about God. Challenges in our lives bring us success, so do not focus too much on what you are going through, focus on where you are going,” were some of the inspiring words Bronkhorst and Joubert shared.
Van den Berg told the women that God does not predict the future, He creates the future. “The problem is, people don’t know themselves and you can only know and find yourself in God,” Van den Berg said.
