LISTEN: Body of missing 11-year-old found in dam

The body of Lesiba Maphosa (11), the boy who went missing from Extension 44 on 23 September, has been found in a dam almost 300km from where he disappeared.

POLOKWANE -The body of Lesiba Maphosa (11), the boy who went missing from Westenburg Extension 44 on 23 September,  has been found in a dam almost 300km from where he disappeared.

According to provincial police spokesperson, people in a boat came across the body in the Blyde Dam near Hoedspruit on 24 September.

At that stage he was unknown and nobody in that area had been reported missing.”

“Following the reports of a missing boy at Westenburg the investigation team was informed by the Hoedspruit police station,” explained Otto.

Lesiba’s parents travelled to the mortuary at the Namakgale Hospital this morning where he was positively identified as their missing son.

“The body had an open wound to the neck but a post mortem to establish the cause of death will still be performed.”

No arrests have been made, but an experienced team of detectives is looking into the circumstances of his disappearance and subsequent death concluded Otto.
