Sleeping under a bridge to raise awareness

To create awareness and to show her solidarity with homeless children, Kedibone Magongwa, spent the past weekend under a bridge on the N1.

POLOKWANE – To create awareness and to show her solidarity with homeless children, Kedibone Magongwa, spent the past weekend under a bridge on the N1.

“I decided to show my solidarity with homeless children in this way to try and open the eyes of people who are ignorant of homeless children’s plight.

“It is about creating awareness and to make people understand that children need to be kept safe in every town and city. I see these children every day and feel that they need help.

I hope that by me giving up some of my comforts I can get assistance for those who have no comfort.” she told Review during an interview.

According to Magongwa there are a lot of homeless children in the Ga-Mothiba (Nobody) area close to Polokwane. She says these children turn to the streets because they do not have anyone to care for them.

Raise funds to open an orphanage ‘God’s Purpose’

By donations and raising money in other ways, Magongwa wants to open a orphanage she would like to call God’s Purpose. It will cater for children from four to 18 years.

Motinki Mahlo, spokesperson for this project, said the project is aimed at providing food, shelter and even transport for homeless children in the area.

Mahlo said the planned orphanage will be a live-in facility where children will be taken care of 24/7. “We are looking for all kinds of support, especially with building material,” Mahlo said.

Anyone who would like more information on the project or get involved can call Magongwa at 076 675 5711.
