LIMPOPO – Motorists are urged to be very careful when driving on the N11 between the Platreef Mine and the Mogalakwena mine due to the dangerous condition of the road as a result of the protests on Wednesday morning.
At around 11:00 protesters blocked off the N11 between the Platreef Mine and Anglo Platinum’s Mogalakwena mine. “Within 15 minutes they destroyed a piece of the tar road making it impossible to drive there and as a result drivers have to drive next to the road,” Martin van Eck, reaction-manager at SOS.
Residents from different Villages in the Mapela area blocked off numerous roads in the early hours of Wednesday morning in an strong attempt to gain attention so that their concerns can be heard.
The protests started in the Mosesetjane Village about 7 km outside of Mokopane where more than 500 residents including scholars blocked of the Marken road stating that they are unhappy with the lack of water in their village and that they are tired of empty promises after 10 years.

Bosveld Review Journalist went to inspect the situation on the N11 earlier today but the police had already gained control… Const Sello Leso, spokesperson for the Mahwelereng police station, said up to now no arrests have been made and the police are trying their best to manage the situation.
