POLOKWANE – Matilda Nwaile from Noorderland High School was among the Gr 12 learners who were invited by the Department of Basic Education to come and receive awards for their hard work and dedication.
Matilda scored 100% in accounting and received other distinctions in subjects such as English first additional language (FAL), mathematics, life orientation, life sciences and physical sciences.
Noorderland scored a 91,6% pass rate and received various distinctions.

Annitjie Phaladi is Noorderland’s top learner guided by the number of distinctions she received.
However, Phaladi was not invited to the provincial top learners awards.
She received distinctions in English FAL, mathematics, life orientation, computer applications technology (Cat), life sciences and physical sciences.

One of Noorderland’s top learners, Petersen Phihlea, who received four distinctions, said passing matric with flying colours is not impossible, it just takes hard work.
“Learners should just pay attention and have determination in order to ace their exams.
“There are a lot of obstacles along the way but learners should try as hard as they can to eliminate them,” Petersen.
He added that he will be studying mechatronics at the University of Cape Town and he is keen to work hard and complete the course.
Mechatronics is a multidisciplinary field of engineering that includes a combination of systems including engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, telecommunications engineering, control engineering and computer engineering.
