Register for local govt elections

The special registration stations will be open on 5 and 6 March. The registration application process is as follows:

POLOKWANE – To secure your vote at the local municipal elections, which will take place on a date between 18 May and 16 August, residents must register at their nearest Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) office, to vote.

The IEC will open special registration stations in and around Polokwane to accommodate residents, especially those in rural areas, who cannot visit the IEC offices that are situated at 15A Landdros Maré Street. The special registration stations will be open on 5 and 6 March.

How to find your voting station:

1. Click on where do I vote.

2. Type in your address and

3. Click on the green icon on the map to see the details of your voting station.

 

If residents miss the opportunity to register at the special stations, they can still go to the nearest IEC offices and register there.

Residents must take their ID, temporary ID, or Smartcard ID with to register.

The registration application process is as follows:

• Complete an application form, which is available at the IEC office.

• Applicant’s ID is scanned into the system.

• A barcoded sticker is pasted in the ID or temporary ID certificate. If the applicant has a Smartcard ID, the sticker will be pasted on a special form that will be given to the applicant.

• The application will be verified and within seven working days be processed.

After seven days applicants can send an SMS with their ID number to 32810 to confirm whether their application was successfully registered.

An SMS costs R1.

Residents can also visit the IEC offices to confirm registration.
